Homemade Glazed Donuts
"Grandma Fife's recipe from her mother, Grandma Mable Christensen. Also, Sharla's favorite family-home-evening dessert."

Ingredients:
Donut:
1 cup scaled milk
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 tsp salt
3 Yeast Cakes in 1/4 cup lukewarm water
(2 tablespoons 3/4 teaspoons dry active yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water)
1/2 cup mashed potatoes in 1/2 potato water
2 eggs well beaten
6 cup flour sifted
2 cups oil

Glaze:
3 cup powdered sugar, sifted
1/3 cup hot water
Pinch of Salt
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Mix donut ingredients in order.
Let rise until dough has tripled.
Roll out to 1/4 or 1/2 inch thickness and cut with donut cutter.
Let rise until doubled.
Fry in 2 cups of oil until golden brown.

Mix all glaze ingredients in a bowl large enough to dip the donuts.
Drain donuts on paper and dip in glaze.
